AUSLAN

We have been learning AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) at our school for a few years now and are becoming quite good at signing a lot of the basics, e.g. letters, numbers, colours, emotions, greetings. In our sessions we limit our speaking and communicate as much as possible through signing. We learn new signs each week which we then practice through games. We learn how to sign along with books such as Where is the Green Sheep, and how to sign songs including some Christmas carols and the Australian National Anthem. In the middle and senior end of the school, we also learn how to construct sentences to be able to greet each other and to communicate a little bit about ourselves, e.g. our name, age, our family, etc.
